TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 10

11:00 AM

The Convergence of Self-Service Technologies

Technology investments, if made wisely, can provide competitive advantage, reduced expenditures, and contributions to profitability. The three most popular self service platforms have been vending, kiosks, and web applications. While each has had their own focus, all this is dramatically changing as the technologies continue their course to convergence.

Vending is becoming more interactive, with more payment, reporting and product options. More kiosk applications are being built with product distribution in mind. Web connectivity overlaps every aspect of transaction management. Together these forces will likely give birth to a more expansive and comprehensive unattended point of sale application that incorporates multiple forms of self-service technologies. Attend this session and learn:

  • The basic differences in self-service technologies (vending machines, kiosks, and web-based applications).
  • The benefits of self-service technology convergence for product branding, distribution, and replenishment.
  • The advancement in design of non-traditional unattended points of sale.
  • The newest platform for system data interchange (server-to-server).
  • The trend toward uniform payment options at all points of purchase.

Speaker: Dr. Michael L. Kasavana, Ph.D., NCE, CHTP, National Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA), Professor, The School of Hospitality Business – Michigan State University

12:00 PMKeeping your Self-Service Systems Running: Kiosk Remote Management Demystified

Customers demand value – and you have deployed self-service kiosks to provide even more to them. However, keeping them operational is vital to their success - self-service kiosks provide no value if they’re not working. The best way to maintain active kiosks and deliver value for your customers is by ensuring that you are using Remote Monitoring and Management for the kiosks. In this session, attendees will examine:

  • The benefits to your customers.
  • The value, benefits and other vital information about utilizing remote monitoring & management.
  • The technology behind remote monitoring.
  • Real life deployments and case studies of leading businesses that have effectively leveraged remote monitoring & management in successful network deployments.

Speaker: Robert Ventresca, VP of Marketing – Netkey

 1:00 PM

Lowering The Total Cost of Network Ownership:  Deployment & Operations

The deployment (and ongoing management) of remote network nodes has changed little since the Morris worm of 1988.  Recent advances in network architecture use a LAN resident software client which functions as a virtual technician providing 24X7 monitoring, remote test, management, reset, and automatic rollback while enabling PCI compliance.
This three tier architecture – firewall, NOC, and LAN client – substantially reduces implementation timeframes utilizing an automated deployment methodology that require no IP changes to LAN or WAN, and no changes to the IP addressing scheme.  Join us as we review the advantages and disadvantages of this new architecture including its holistic approach to PCI compliance.

Speaker: Bill Pickard, Chief Operating Officer - Vendor Safe Technologies

2:00 PM

Kiosks and Channel Optimization

Customer expectations, competition, and brand disassociation has driven the need to integrate and optimize service delivery channels. Retailers must establish relevant, targeted, and measured relationships to capture revenue and create identifiable value.  Remote Management forms the backbone for the integration of Kiosks, Digital Signage and Queue Management as core components in the effective implementation of in-branch strategies and multi-generational service strategies.  Attend this session and learn:

  • Methods for using "Who" and "What" to drive contextual advertising
  •  Creating a customer flow process for greater customer satisfaction
  • Benefits of mediated (integrated) self service

Speaker: Bevan Hayes, Director of Strategic Markets - Esprida

How do the issues facing unattended payment terminals (UPT) impact the kiosk industry? Failure to design, manufacture and implement these crucial compliance issues my result in devastating fines, losses and penalties for those companies that do not follow. Attend this session and learn:

  • About the PCI standards and its impact on the kiosk industry, paying special attention to the impact of the UPT standards
  • How will PCI impact my hardware design? Software? Data storage?
  • Will my kiosk fall under UPT?
  • What are the key dates? Key requirements on each date?
  • How do the standards apply globally

Speakers: Kirk Nelson, Associate Vice President of OEM Solutions – ArcaTech Systems
Craig Keefner, Channel Manager – KIOSK Information Systems

12:00 PMUnderstanding the Critical Differences & Elements for Outdoor Kiosk Deployments

While they make look similar, deploying kiosks outdoors presents a different set of issues to focus on than indoor deployments. Outdoor kiosks can be extremely useful for customers and can be profitable for businesses, but they are also prone to the other factors for consideration, including the natural elements and vandalism. Learn what it takes to build a machine rugged enough to stand up to everything thrown its way. Attend this session and learn:

  • The specific needs and differences of outdoor kiosks and digital signage, allowing them to be placed in high-traffic outdoor areas without the fear of weather damage.
  • The complexity of this promising media for the urban landscape.
  • Ten points of critical differences between indoor & outdoor kiosks.
  • Case studies analysis including: New York MTA (interactive kiosks & digital signage); New York Diamond district (kiosks); The first outdoor kiosk deployed in a cemetery; Outdoor ticketing kiosk for cruise lines; Supply chain outdoor kiosk in north of Europe

Speaker: Eric Dumouchel, CEO - ULTIMedia

Digital Photo Frames:  Low cost, no infrastructure “Personal” interactive signage

Digital Picture Frames are cheap and easy to buy, with little or no installation costs.  But, a low investment threshold doesn’t guarantee ROI with this new type of signage.  You need to display the right information at the right time to the right customer.  Learn how the Banks and  highly recognized brands like BMW are using off-the-shelf digital picture frames to deliver low-cost, high impact messages.  Their ROI success story involves broadcasting data for multiple customer demographics without additional administrative costs.
This session shows you how to create, deploy, and manage digital imagery to display effective messages.

  • Delivering brand and product information to customers at the point of sale
  • Customizing data for individual locations
  • Maintaining your brand strategy
  • Updating information in multiple remote locations

Speaker: Craig Martin, Principal - Reality Interactive
